Here is what we are currently learning about in Grade Three
MathData Management:
– demonstrate an ability to organize objects into categories, by sorting and classifying objects using two or more attributes simultaneously – collect data by conducting a simple survey – collect and organize data and display the data using charts and graphs, including vertical and horizontal bar graphs, with labels ordered appropriately along horizontal axes, as needed – read, describe, and interpret primary data presented in charts and graphs, including vertical and horizontal bar graphs – demonstrate an understanding of mode (e.g.,“The mode is the value that shows up most often on a graph.”), and identify the mode in a set of data. |
LanguageOral Communication: Students will be presenting their title pages to the class this month and telling us about themselves and their interests. Writing: Currently we are exploring the 6 learning skills and writing our goals for this school year based on these skills: 1. Responsibility 2. Organization 3. Independent Work 4. Collaboration 5. Initiative 6. Self-Regulation "Quiet 10" - Students are going to be working on building their writing stamina by having a quiet writing period where they can write about a topic of their choice (for ten minutes). We will also continue to work on writing sentences with different types of punctuation. Reading: I am currently working on assessing students' individual reading levels. Once this process is complete, we will begin a home reading program. |
ScienceUnderstanding Structures & Mechanisms:
-assess the importance of form, function, strength, and stability in structures through time -investigate strong and stable structures to determine how their design and materials enable them to perform their load-bearing function -demonstrate an understanding of the concepts of structure, strength, and stability and the factors that affect them -use technological problem-solving skills and knowledge acquired from previous investigations, to design and build a strong and stable structure that serves a purpose -use appropriate science and technology vocabulary, including compression, tension, strut, ties, strength, and stability, in oral and written communication -identify a force as a push or a pull that causes an object to move -describe how different forces (e.g., magnetism, muscular force, gravitational force, friction) applied to an object at rest can cause the object to start, stop, attract, repel, or change direction -identify ways in which forces are used in their daily lives |
